INDEX, WA — Woolston-Steen Theological Seminary is opening a new extension of the seminary in Australia starting January 6, 2014.
Woolston-Steen Theological Seminary is an online school at which people can earn Associate, Bachelor, Master and Doctorate degrees. The classes are currently held at 6 and 7 p.m. PST. The new extension will be offering classes during the evening in Australia.
One of the classes offered, the Wheel of the Year, is a year-long class structured around the eight sabbats (solstices and equinoxes). Since the seasons are reversed for Wiccans in Australia, southern Africa and South America, the current Wheel of the Year class does not correspond with the sabbats in those regions. Many weather phenomena and climate patterns are also different from the Northern Hemisphere.
Adam Barralet, a third degree priest of the Church of Wicca of Australia – ATC, will be the Dean of the Australian extension. He will also be teaching a new version of the Wheel of the Year course to match the sabbats and seasons of the Southern Hemisphere.
“The eight sabbats have been revamped to include native plants and animal totems and exploring how to connect to bushfires, tropical cyclones and more,” said Barralet. “In a tradition that is focused on the reverence of Nature it is great for ‘southerners’ to be able to connect with that which is right before them. It is my intention to facilitate and strengthen this connection with their native land through this Wheel of the Year Course.”
Woolston-Steen Theological Seminary is a state-recognized college, and the only Wiccan college in the world with a .EDU extension. The seminary offers classes online using SecondLife.com, which is a virtual, 3D platform. The seminary is a part of the Aquarian Tabernacle Church, which is based out of Index, Wash. with affiliates in several countries.
